My verdict

The best budget Nike in years: a wide, stable, protective daily trainer for beginners and slow runners, and a superb walking and casual shoe.

Best for

  • Easy runs

Avoid if

You want a soft, bouncy shoe for faster running, or you mostly run on rough tarmac in the wet.

Watch the review

What works

  • Wide, stable platform
  • Breathable mesh upper (fixes the Winflo 11's heat)
  • Gusseted tongue and strong inner lining
  • Excellent for walking and casual wear
  • Fair launch price

What doesn't

  • No bounce
  • Not as soft as expected
  • Soft outsole rubber may wear fast and lose wet grip

Scores

Ride

8.0/10

Stable and protective for easy runs up to 10 km, and excellent for walking thanks to the wide platform. The Cushlon 3.0 foam is balanced rather than plush, and there's no real bounce.

Design & Comfort

9.0/10

The biggest redesign in Nike's budget range: a much wider platform, a light and breathable mesh upper that fixes the Winflo 11's heat problem, and a full gusseted tongue with a strong inner lining.

Value

9.0/10

Priced sensibly at launch and holds its price like most Nike budget shoes; expect a further ₹1,000–2,000 off in sales.

Full review

The Winflo 12 is a complete redesign. Nike has given its budget trainer a wide, max-cushion platform, close to the first Puma Magmax Nitro in shape, with Cushlon 3.0 foam and a full-length Air unit. The softness is balanced rather than plush, more protective than bouncy, and the stack height feels high, but the shoe doesn't feel heavy on foot. On a first 10 km run it felt stable and protective at slower paces (over 6:00/km). It's a neutral shoe, not a stability shoe, for neutral and high arches. The upper is now a thin, breathable mesh, fixing the Winflo 11's breathability issue, with a full gusseted tongue and a thick inner lining that should protect the mesh from tearing. The outsole rubber is thinner and softer than usual for Nike, which keeps the weight down but may wear quickly on hard tarmac and lose grip in the wet. It runs true to size. I went up half a size for a full thumb-width of toe room. Leave a thumb-width of space so your toes don't punch through the mesh.
