My verdict
The GT-1000 14 is far better than the last version and a soft, comfortable mild-stability shoe for walking and beginners, but it is not worth ₹10,000. Buy the GT-2000 14 or another option instead, or wait until it drops to ₹4,000–5,000.
Pros
- Big improvement over the previous version
- Very soft, springy FF Blast midsole
- Light, breathable, soft jacquard mesh upper
- Felt lighter than the listed 270 g
- Durable outsole with good wet traction
- Good stability for beginners with mild overpronation
Cons
- Not worth ₹10,000
- Soft, not stiff, heel clip, not for extreme overpronation
- Not for runners over about 80 kg
- Heel gel is just marketing
- Better options at the same price or less
Avoid if
Avoid it at ₹10,000, if you weigh over 80 kg, or if you have extreme overpronation.

Scores
Ride
6.0/10
The FF Blast midsole is very soft with a perfect springy-soft blend, ideal for walking, and the stack protects beginners.
Design & Comfort
7.5/10
The jacquard mesh upper is light, breathable, soft and comfy, the outsole grips in the wet, and the soft heel clip gives mild stability.
Value
6.0/10
It is definitely not worth ₹10,000 when the GT-2000 14 and cheaper ASICS and New Balance options give more, but it becomes a great buy at ₹4,000–5,000.

I paid ₹10,000 for the ASICS GT-1000 14 and finished testing it. I criticised the previous version heavily and told people not to buy it. This version surprised me. It now uses FF Blast instead of plain Flytefoam, a jacquard mesh upper, and a hybrid outsole with hard AHAR rubber at the heel and softer rubber elsewhere. ASICS lists 270 g, but mine felt lighter than that. The FF Blast midsole is very soft, a perfect blend of springy and soft, and an excellent walking foam. ASICS lists 34 mm at the heel, 26 mm at the forefoot and an 8 mm drop, which is plenty to protect beginners. The heel gel is just marketing. The jacquard mesh is light, breathable, soft and comfy. The outsole has good traction in the wet and is durable. It uses the 3D Guidance System, and the heel clip is quite soft, not stiff. So this is for mild overpronation, not extreme. It suits walkers and beginners under 75–80 kg who need some stability. If you are over 80 kg, I would recommend something with more stack for protection. The problem is the price. It is definitely not worth ₹10,000. At ₹14,000 retail with ₹1,000–2,000 off, the GT-2000 14 gives you about double the durability and stability. If you have no overpronation, the Gel-Excite 11 or Gel-Pulse 17 at ₹5,000–6,000 on offer will do the job. Heavier runners with overpronation can go for the Kayano 32, and the New Balance 860v14 and 880v15 under ₹8,000 are also better buys. The GT-1000 15 is already out in the US, so this shoe should drop to half price, around ₹4,000–5,000. At that price it is a great walking shoe. I do not feel my ₹10,000 was wasted, because I love it for walking, but I would not buy it at that price.

Gel-Kayano 33
This became my favourite Kayano of all the ones I have tested, and at ₹17,000 it is one of the safest full marathon shoes in India for most runners. Very heavy runners and severe overpronators who dislike soft foam should stick with the Kayano 32.

StabilityNew Balance
860 v14
The 860v14 is one of the best shoes for flat feet and overpronation, and for me it beat the Kayano with extra bounce and stability. I give it 9 out of 10 overall, and at ₹6,000–9,000 it is a highly recommended buy.

StabilityASICS
Gel-Kayano 32
The Kayano 32 is top quality in every way and its guidance felt like it laid a flat road for my foot. But for my weight and moderate overpronation it was too much shoe for ₹17,000, and I would buy the GT-2000 14 or 13 instead.
