Gel-Kayano 33
My favourite Kayano yet. Soft and bouncy on top, stable underneath.

My verdict
This became my favourite Kayano of all the ones I have tested, and at ₹17,000 it is one of the safest full marathon shoes in India for most runners. Very heavy runners and severe overpronators who dislike soft foam should stick with the Kayano 32.
Pros
- Soft, bouncy FF Blast Max top layer
- Stable firmer base layer
- Plush heel and tongue padding
- More breathable than the Kayano 32
- 8 mm drop
- Comfortable on 20 km long runs
- Safe option for a first full marathon
- Suits flat, neutral and high arches
Cons
- Durability doubts for runners over 90 kg
- About 20% less structure than the Kayano 32
- Too soft for severe overpronators who dislike soft foam
- Not for wide feet in the standard width
- Expensive at ₹17,000
Avoid if
Avoid it if you are over 90 kg with flat feet, or overpronate heavily and dislike soft foam; the Kayano 32 suits you better.

The FF Blast Max top layer made it soft and bouncy, and I enjoyed every run including 20 km long runs.

Plush, breathable engineered mesh upper with thick padding and a strong heel clip, though stability is about 80 to 90% of the Kayano 32.

At ₹17,000 it is one of the safest marathon options in India, but I am unsure how durable the soft foam will be for heavier runners.

I did not like the Kayano 32. It felt too hard for my 72 kg and too heavy. The 33 changes that. ASICS replaced the 4D Guidance System with a new dual-density setup: a soft, bouncy FF Blast Max layer on top, the same foam as the Novablast 5, and a firmer FF Blast Plus Eco layer underneath. Your foot lands on the soft foam, while the firmer base stops the foot rolling in. I enjoyed my first run so much that I forgot to record it. My 20 km long runs were great fun, and the weight did not bother me. The upper is an engineered mesh with very plush padding. It is more breathable than the 32, and I had no issues on 20 km runs. The heel and tongue padding is thick and soft, with a strong heel clip, a stitched midfoot band, and a good insole. The forefoot platform on the medial side flares out more than on the last version, and the outsole uses hybrid rubber cut into segments for a smoother transition, with harder, thicker rubber at the heel. It fits normal feet. It is not for wide feet, so go for the wide version. Stability is about 80 to 90% of the old system. That is enough for me as a moderate pronator. But because the top foam is so soft, about 20% of the old structure feels missing. Severe overpronators who dislike soft foam may not like it. My main worry is durability. After 50 to 60 km it already feels quite soft for me at 72 kg. I don't know how it will hold up after 100 km for runners above 90 kg. If it softens further, flat-footed runners could have problems. It costs ₹17,000. For beginners, neutral, high-arched or flat-footed runners from about 70 to 95 kg who want a safe shoe for their first full marathon, it is one of the best options in India right now. It also works for all-day walking and standing. If you are over 90 kg with flat feet, or you overpronate heavily and want firmer foam, the Kayano 32 at ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 is the better pick.

860 v14
The 860v14 is one of the best shoes for flat feet and overpronation, and for me it beat the Kayano with extra bounce and stability. I give it 9 out of 10 overall, and at ₹6,000–9,000 it is a highly recommended buy.

Gel-Kayano 32
The Kayano 32 is top quality in every way and its guidance felt like it laid a flat road for my foot. But for my weight and moderate overpronation it was too much shoe for ₹17,000, and I would buy the GT-2000 14 or 13 instead.

Gel-Kayano 31
After 60 km I could not find a single flaw. At the current discount price, the Kayano 31 is one of the best stability shoes on the market and I give it full marks, though I would not recommend it at retail price.
