My verdict
The MagMax is one of the most comfortable shoes I tested this year and a protective max-cushion shoe for slow, easy running, scoring 38/50. If you get it for ₹12,000, close your eyes and buy it.
Pros
- One of the most comfortable shoes of the year
- Very soft, protective Nitro cushioning
- Wide forefoot and roomy toe box
- Luxurious gusseted tongue and soft padding
- Best-in-class grip, wet or dry
- Premium build quality
- Good breathability for a max-cushion shoe
- Great for walking and casual wear
Cons
- Laces too short for a runner's knot and loosen at speed
- Feels heavy at faster paces
- Not for fast running
- Overpriced at ₹17,000
- Neutral only, not a stability shoe
Avoid if
Avoid it if you want to run fast or need a stability shoe.

Scores
Ride
8.0/10
The Nitro cushioning is very soft and protective, but the weight holds you back at faster paces, so I gave cushioning and performance 8/10.
Design & Comfort
9.0/10
Fit, design and comfort got 9/10: roomy toe box, wide stable forefoot, luxurious tongue and padding, with only short laces as a complaint.
Value
8.0/10
Price and availability got 6/10, because ₹17,000 is far too high even though it is easy to find online.

I have run more than 60 km in the Puma MagMax Nitro and rated it in five categories out of 10. Fit, design and comfort get 9/10, my highest recently. In my US 9 there is a thumb's width of space and enough height in the toe box, and the forefoot is wide, which gives the stable ride I want in a max-cushion shoe. The gusseted tongue is luxurious, and the padding is very soft. There is hardly any heel counter, but the shoe is stable enough not to need one. My one complaint is the laces. They are too short for a runner's knot and sometimes come loose at faster paces, so I double-knot them. It is so comfortable that it is the only shoe I wear casually and for walking now. Cushioning and performance get 8/10. The Nitro foam cushioning is unique and very soft, and it protects your legs like a baby. I have tried the Nimbus, Vomero 18, Vomero Plus, Glideride Max and Skechers Aero Burst, and the cushioning here deserves full marks. Performance is lower. At around 5:00/km you feel the Nitro energy return, but the weight pushes you to run slower. If you start at 7:00 or 9:00/km, it helps you hold that pace without pushing you faster. Outsole and build quality get 8/10. Puma's grip is the best in the industry, wet or dry, and the materials are premium. Breathability is very good for a max-cushion shoe, even on long runs. It weighs 290 g, lighter than its rivals, but it feels over 300 g when I run fast. If Puma cuts the weight, it will be number one next year. Price and availability get 6/10. It is on Puma's site, Tata CLiQ, Ajio, Myntra, Amazon and Flipkart, but ₹17,000 is far too high. It suits beginners from 70 to 120 kg who want a highly protective neutral shoe for easy jogging, half marathons and full marathons. It is not a stability shoe and not for fast running. At ₹12,000, buy it without thinking.

Superblast 3
If money is no issue and you want one shoe that makes you love running, the Superblast 3 is the one I recommend. No other shoe this year gave me this much fun, though the soft exposed midsole wears quickly.

Max cushionNike
Vomero Plus
One of my top three max-cushion daily trainers of 2025; I couldn't find any problem with it for its purpose. It's expensive at ₹16,000, and it suits runners at 5 to 6 min/km, not slow, heavy or unstable runners.

Superblast 2
The Superblast 2 is one of the greatest super trainers, light, balanced and with energy return, and I set every PB in it. I rate it 9/10 overall and 8/10 for my own slower profile; at around ₹15,000 it is an absolute banger.
