Gel-Nimbus 26
Soft, premium and built to last, and a great buy at its ₹8,000 sale price

Older model. I have also reviewed the newer version: ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28
Expected sale price: ₹8,000

- Bought with my own money
- 21.1 km longest run
My verdict
I would not recommend it at ₹16,000, but at the ₹8,000 sale price I know of no other shoe this soft, protective, durable and premium. The snug, low toe box is its one major flaw.
Pros
- Complete impact protection on hard roads
- Very soft compared with other max-cushion shoes
- Premium materials and foam
- Expected to last 1,000 km
- Excellent value at around ₹8,000 on sale
- Suits heavy runners, walking and full marathons
Cons
- Snug, low toe box
- Breathability issue in the toe area
- High stack can feel wobbly for beginners with weak ankles
- Little energy return, not for fast running
- Poor value at the ₹16,000 retail price
Avoid if
Avoid it if you lack ankle stability or need toe room; the Gel-Kayano is the safer choice.

Ride
6.0/10
The 40 mm stack absorbed all impact and felt superbly soft at 6:00 to 7:00/km, though energy return is minimal.
Design & Comfort
8.0/10
Premium materials throughout, but the snug, low toe box made my toes tight and hot, and the high stack can wobble for beginners.
Value
7.5/10
Not worth ₹16,000, but at about ₹8,000 on sale with 1,000 km durability nothing in India matches it.

Full review
I have finished my first run in the Nimbus 26: 10 km, very slowly, mostly at 7:00/km and sometimes 6:00/km. It is a max-cushion shoe from a legendary series, and the Nimbus 25 was my favourite max-cushion shoe of 2023 and 2024. I would say it does about 80% of what it is designed to do. With a 40 mm heel and 32 mm forefoot stack, it absorbed the impact completely on the road. I felt none of it, and runners around 80 kg should find it even softer. ASICS has toned down the softness from the very soft Nimbus 25, but it is still very soft compared with other max-cushion shoes. Energy return is slightly better, but you will not feel much of it, and it is not designed for fast running. The materials and foam are premium, with no compromises for a ₹16,000 shoe. My one major negative is the same as on the 25. The toe box is snug and not tall enough, so my toes felt tight and I felt a breathability issue there. It is a little better than the 25 because the upper is softer. A minor issue is the high stack. If you are a beginner without ankle stability, it can feel like walking on a 40 mm heel and your foot may wobble. In that case, go for the Gel-Kayano, which is very similar but more stable with a wider platform. Durability is excellent. With proper use I would guarantee 1,000 km. The upper may only develop holes or tear if you buy it too tight or use it roughly. It is good for heavy runners, walking and even a full marathon. The retail price is about ₹16,000, and I would not recommend it at that price. During Black Friday, ASICS and official sellers on Tata CLiQ, Myntra, Amazon and Flipkart are selling it for around ₹8,000. At that price I know of nothing else in India this durable, protective, soft and premium. I like the Adidas Ultraboost 5 equally, often seen at ₹8,000 to ₹9,000. For worry-free long runs I would pick the Ultraboost 5, because its foam is peppier and its knit upper did not feel hot to me.

Superblast 3
If money is no issue and you want one shoe that makes you love running, the Superblast 3 is the one I recommend. No other shoe this year gave me this much fun, though the soft exposed midsole wears quickly.

Max cushionNike
Vomero Plus
One of my top three max-cushion daily trainers of 2025; I couldn't find any problem with it for its purpose. It's expensive at ₹16,000, and it suits runners at 5 to 6 min/km, not slow, heavy or unstable runners.

MagMax Nitro
The MagMax is one of the most comfortable shoes I tested this year and a protective max-cushion shoe for slow, easy running, scoring 38/50. If you get it for ₹12,000, close your eyes and buy it.
