ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27 vs ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28

On paper, compared with the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 27, the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 28 is 20 g lighter, ₹8,800 pricier, Ride −1.

My take

Nimbus 27 under ₹8k is the buy. Nimbus 28 is softer and fun, but I prefer 27 for long runs.

ProsHuge impact protection for any body weight · Slightly bouncier foam, no sinking feeling · Taller toe box and more breathable jacquard upper than the 26 · Forgiving, premium comfort from the first step · Good for long runs up to the full marathonOutstanding step-in comfort · Plush upper, soft laces and thick heel padding · True to size with good toe room · Extremely protective cushioning · About 20 g lighter than the Nimbus 27 · Reflective overlays for night runs
ConsHeavy at 300 g (UK 8) · Expensive at the ₹16,000 launch price · Less sock-like plushness than the 26's knit upper · Not for fast running · Not a stability shoeFoam feels flat on runs over 10 km after 100 km · Squishing sound from the foam after 60–70 km · Upper traps heat at faster paces · Narrower platform than the 27 · may feel less stable · Less outsole rubber and more wear than earlier versions · Poor value at ₹17,000 next to a discounted Nimbus 27

My verdicts

ASICS

Gel-Nimbus 27

A premium, highly protective max-cushion shoe for beginners, heavy runners and long distances, and one of my top three max-cushion daily trainers. ₹16,000 is too expensive, but at around ₹11,000 I'd pick it over the 26 without a second thought.

Avoid if: Avoid it if you want a light shoe for fast running or need a stability shoe.

ASICS

Gel-Nimbus 28

For heavy beginners, walk-runners and recovery days, it is one of the most comfortable shoes in the world. With ₹17,000 in hand I would not buy it again: I'd buy a discounted Nimbus 27 and a lighter daily trainer.

Avoid if: Avoid it if you want one shoe for long runs or faster running, because the foam felt flat after 10 km and the upper traps heat.
